Charter Marine Africa is an independently owned vessel finance organisation. We have no affiliation any shipyard, and are therefore well positioned to assist you from a position of absolute objectivity.
The company brings together decades of collective experience in the West African Oil & Gas market, specifically in: vessel chartering, vessel finance, crewing, maintenance and service. By drawing on the expertise within our team, we are able to identify and mitigate risk factors in order to validate any financing proposal.
Grant is a qualified Chartered Accountant (SA) who served his articles with Ernst & Young. He has a cumulative 25 years’ experience in Advertising; Consulting; Professional Services, Retail and Manufacturing, in Cape Town and Johannesburg. Most recently, Grant served as the Chief Commercial Officer for a major shipyard in South Africa. He worked closely with Lenders and Transaction Advisors to develop a business model to enable clients to acquire vessels on a Lease-to-Own basis.

John Spence as Chief Technical Officer is a qualified Engineer who specialized in building aluminum crew boats and security vessels. With a reputation for high quality and durability, John oversaw the build of vessels and played a leading role in engineering and design of certain elements of the vessels. He completed the build of two 35m FSIV vessels for a client in the oil & gas sector in Nigeria. The success of these builds is testimony to John’s deep technical knowledge of vessel design and construction.
John brings technical knowledge of marine design and systems to Charter Marine Africa.
